There’s only one thing we humans need for survival: beer.

OK, two things: beer and water. In a survival situation, drinking water is almost as important as the air we breathe. The problem, of course, is that finding clean drinking water isn’t always easy.

Thankfully, water purification and filtration systems have taken a massive leap forward in the last decade. GoPure Pod is one of the latest in the field and the company recently sent us a sample for a first look.

In the company’s own words:

GoPure purifies naturally. Inside the Pod is an advanced, highly porous ceramic made from food grade minerals of biogenic origin and processed with patented technology that continuously attracts and adsorbs impurities, balances pH and releases valuable trace minerals. The result is fresh, great-tasting drinking water!

Our lab (read: office kitchen) isn’t outfitted for hardcore water purification testing, so we can’t exactly provide a proper, detailed review. But, we’re stoked about this device — mainly because it’s small (about the size of your thumb) and dead simple to use.

Just drop it into a (preferably clean) container, fill the container with water, and agitate the liquid a bit to make sure that as much of the water touches the pod’s ceramic core as possible. Drink as normal. That’s it.

There are no batteries or filters to change and it works continuously, rather than just once like most carbon filters on the market. The product lasts up to six months (around 240 gallons) and, when you’re done, you simply buy a new one.

Because they’re so small and cheap, it’s a no-brainer to stock up on a few dozen and throw them in your backpack or go-bag. You can easily stock years worth of clean H20 whenever and wherever you need it.
